Beaches

Naikoon Provincial Park

Offers expansive sandy beaches, hikes, and stunning sunsets. From areas like North Beach views of Alaska can be found on clear days. Multiple access points, including across from the wedding venue via Misty Meadows makes it easier to visit.

Jungle Beach

Its ease of access just off the highway, concomitant with the roughly 2 kilometers of sandy beach makes for an appealing day out. If conditions are right you may see bioluminescence light up your footsteps at night.

Bonanza Beach (Rennell Sound)

Though remote and requires effort to reach, you will be blessed with its incredibly fine sand, surfing waves, and rich tidal pools. There’s also other beaches in the area.

Hikes

Tarundl Creek Trail

Easy • 3km • 1 hr • No Elevation Gain

Located west of Daajing Giids the trail takes you through lush rainforest and rich floodplain. Salmon spawn here in the fall attracting the bears.

Sleeping Beauty Trail

Hard • 10.6km • 6 hrs • 644m Elevation

Once the shape is pointed out you can’t miss the beauty of the sleeping giant, particularly as the sun sets behind her. This is one of Haida Gwaii’s famous hikes, with varied terrain which can be challenging, but rewarding with its expansive views.

Golden Spruce Trail

Easy • 800m • 20 min • No Elevation Gain

Up until January 1997, the end of this trail led to a viewpoint whereby you could admire the Golden Spruce. Context is essential to understanding and appreciating this sacred place, we recommend John Vaillant’s The Golden Spruce (2005), for those interested in the history.

Check out hikehaidagwaii.com for more information. Other trails we recommend include the Pesuta Shipwreck, Cape Fife Trail, Rose Spit, Tow Hill and Blow Hole, Spirit Lake, and Tlell Dunes Walk.
